OVERVIEW

South of Cusco, the Vilcanota is one of the impressive of Peru's mountain ranges, with many 6000 meter peaks, including Apu Ausangate mountain 6400m/20,350fts, the highest snowy mountain in the south of Peru. This high and wild trekking circuit winds its way through this rarely visited range, on quiet trails, following lovely alpine valleys that are home to traditional Quechua speaking communities. Peru's most rare and spectacular wildlife, including herds of grazing Vicuñas and domestic camelids. Llamas and Alpacas. In this journey, you will enjoy unbelievably lakeside camps and cross several 5000-meter passes, each providing spectacular mountain views.  On this trek you will marvel at brilliantly colored landscapes, turquoise high mountain lagoons, imposing White glaciers, Rolling local farmlands, and ice dunes, all part of the majestic Vilcanota mountain range. You will be amazed at the rainbow of sediment striations that sparkle with a variety of colors of Vinicunca, Rainbow mountain. Note: very important for you to come two days early before your treks start to acclimatize in Cusco.

ITINERARY

 DAY 1.  CUSCO QUESIUNO, RIAMBOW MOUNTAIN TO SORIMANICCOCHA

We will depart from Cusco around 8.00 a.m. we will take private transportation to the starting point of our trek at Quesiuno with our trekking crew as well we will meet our team of a horseman. Here is the place we will have lunch while our horsemen have prepared our camping equipment, after lunch, we will start a gradual ascent for three hours to reach Vininkunca or the Rainbow mountain at 5000mts. also today we will visit Red valley beautiful covered with red sand soil with amazing views of the snow-capped Apu Ausangate glacier.  after enjoying the fantastic views of this colorful mountain we will continue our hike for 1:45 hrs to our camp Sorimaniccocha. 4700m.

Altitude: 3400m/10800ft. Surimaniccocha 4700m/14000ft, Distance: 12 km. Time: 6 hrs.

DAY 2 SURIMANI CCOCHA TO AUSANGATE CCOCHA

After an early breakfast, we will start our ascent for one hour to Warmysaya Pass (5000m) Here you will have a beautiful view of Apu Ausangate mountain after having free time we will continue our descend to Ananta Valley for two hours, then we will start to hike up another three hours to Pukaccocha Pass 5900mtrs.  From this point, we will enjoy this magnificent view of Ausanagte glacier lagoons Pukaccocha and Ccomerccocha. Today in our trek we will see and across herds of llamas and Alpacas, as the herdsman uses these trails to trade with agricultural farmers. We will descend close to Pucaccocha lagoon where we will stop to have lunch. After lunch, we will continue trekking another 3 hours to our basecamp Ausangate Ccocha (4600m)

Altitude: 4700m. Ausangate Ccocha 4600m, Distance: 14 km, Time: 8 to 9 hours.

DAY 3: AUSANGATE CCOCHA, PALOMANI TO ZORAPAMPA CAMP

After a lovely breakfast, we will start our ascent for 3 hours. To reach the highest point of our whole trek, palomino pass. At 5200m from here, you will enjoy the amazing views of cordillera Villcanota or Villcanota mountain range. one of the biggest mountain ranges coming from bolivia Potosi. After having free time to take plenty of photos we will descend into the broad Green valley of Pampacancha, which is set amongst glacial moraines at an altitude of 4500m here we will have lunch. After lunch, we continue our gradual ascent for two hours for our basecamp Zorapampa 4600m. Today we will pass by agricultural small Quechua speaking communities farmers of Potatoes and camelids Llama and Alpaca.

Altitude: 4600m. Zopampa camp 4600.m, Distance: 16 km, Time:  7 to 8 hrs.

DAY 4. ZORAPAMPA, CCAMPA PASS TO PACCHANTA

After breakfast, we continue our gradual ascent for four hours to Qampa pass 5100mtrs. we will pass several Farmhouses with camels Llamas, Alpacas, and Vicuñas.  In South America, we have four species of camels: llama, alpaca, guanaco, vicuña. of these four llamas and alpaca are domesticated and guanaco, vicuña are wild, on the Ausangate route we can see the vicuña. Wich this animal is protected by the Peruvian government, the morning hike is amazing with overlooking views of the snowed capped mountain range of Hatunhuma, when you get to the highest pass of Ccampa you will have spectacular views Pacchanta valley in a clear day we can see Salkantay mountain from in front after our free time we will descend for two hours for our lunch Ninaparayoc. After lunch, we have another three hours descend to our camp of Pacchanta local community, the afternoon hike is probably one of the most beautiful because you will be looking at the other face of Apu Ausangate and we will pass by seven glacier lagoons each of them provides different color and for local people from the area is sacred and mysterious very well protected.

Altitude: 4600m. Pacchanta 4000m, Distance: 20km, Time: 8 to 9 hrs.

DAY 5. PACCHANTA TO AGUAS CALIENTES

Today will be more resting day before we enjoy Machu Picchu this morning after a lovely breakfast we will take private transportation to Ollantaytambo for five hours.  during the drive we will pass by several small farming villages as well communities full of native customs and Quechua speaking people, today we will have the opportunity to stop in a local restaurant to try our delicious Peruvian dishes like Roasted Guinea pig or Chicharrones (DEEP FRY PORK)  we will pass by Cusco to drop off our duffel bags at the Hotel. After we will continue our drive to Ollantaytambo train station where we take the train for 1: 45 hrs. To Aguas Calientes town. You will pass the night in the Hotel. For many who do the Ausangate trek, it could be the most pleasant train trip from the high mountains to the tropical forest.

Altitude: 4000m to Aguas Calientes 2000m, Driving time: 5hrs.

DAY 6: EXPLORE DAY MACHUPICCHU AFTERNON BACK TO CUSCO

After Breakfast, your guide will pick you from your hotel for a short bus journey to the entrance of Machu Picchu, today you will explore this magical Inca city of the Inca civilization and enjoy learning about it was built and discovered. for 3 hours.  You will then have free time to wander around and if you got a Ticket for Wayna Picchu you can climb.

Note. There are just 400 visitors allowed per day. You have to book in advance the entrance with us to ensure your permit In the afternoon we meet in the town of Aguas Calientes. From here we take the train back to Ollantaytambo or Poroy depending on the space and private transportation back to your Hotel Cusco.
